Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun women's basketball team recorded a non-conference victory on Saturday evening, defeating the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions, 71-60, in Hammond, La.

The win extended Louisiana's win streak to four games, and improved their season-opening record to 4-0 for the first time since the 1983-1984 season.

Southeastern Louisiana took an early 5-0 lead, before Louisiana went on an 8-0 run to grab an 8-5 lead at the 16:00 mark of the first half.

After a closely contested first 19:00 of the match-up, the Lady Lions held a 39-37 lead with :40 remaining in the half, before the Cajuns went on a 6-0 run to end the half, giving them a 43-39 halftime advantage.

Southeastern Louisiana out-shot Louisiana from the field is the first half, 44%-41%, while the two teams each pulled down 17 rebounds, but the Cajuns stayed close, and eventually held the halftime lead by forcing 14 Lady Lion turnovers.

Jaylin Gordon, who went 5-of-6 from the floor in the first half, led the Cajuns with 12 points at the break, while Symone Miller paced the Lady Lions with 10.

UL's Keke Veal hit two-three pointers in the opening minutes of the second half to help Louisiana stretch its lead to 45-38 at the 14:47 mark, and then later extended the Cajuns' lead to double digits for the first time one minute later with a layup to make it 49-39.

With Louisiana leading, 51-39, with less than 13 minutes to play, SLU cut the deficit to 53-48 with 8:52 to play, but that would be as close as they would get, as the Cajuns went on an 11-2 run, giving them a 64-50 lead with 5:19 remaining, before going on to the 11-point road win.

The Lady Lions out-shot the Cajuns from the field, 51%-45%, while finishing with a 34-29 rebound advantage, but the UL defense caused 26 SLU turnovers, helping them to the win.

Gordon led the way for Louisiana, scoring a game-high 23 points, while Kia Wilridge added 19 and Veal 14.

In a losing cause for Southeastern Louisiana, Nanna Pool scored 18 points, while pulling down 15 rebounds.

With the victory, Louisiana improved to 4-0 on the season, while Southeastern Louisiana fell to 2-3.
