Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun women’s basketball team is back in action on Saturday, when coach Garry Brodhead’s squad travels to Arlington, Texas to take on the UT-Arlington Mavericks in a Sun Belt Conference affair.

Tip-off time is scheduled for 5 o’clock, and you can hear all the play-by-play action on our sister-station, Talk Radio 960 AM & talkradio960.com, beginning with the pregame show at 4:45 pm.

The contest will be the first game of a women’s/men’s doubleheader, with the UL men taking on UT-Arlington about 35 minutes following the completion of the women’s game.

Louisiana, who has won nine of their last 13, defeated Texas St., 64-41, on Thursday, to improve to 17-8, overall, and 9-7 in league play, while UT-Arlington, who defeated Appalachian St., 55-45, on Thursday, is currently 14-10, and 8-7, respectively.

UL is currently in fifth-place in the Sun Belt Conference standings, while UT-Arlington is one-half game behind of UL, in sixth-place.

The Cajuns are out-scoring the opposition, 62.5/58.9, while being out-shot by foes from the floor, 41.1%/36.1%, and out-rebounded, 38.6/37.7.

Louisiana is paced by sophomore guard Jaylin Gordon, who leads the team in scoring, at 14.3 points-per-game, and junior guard Keke Veal, who is second on the team in scoring, and first in assists, at 13.4 and 3.5, respectively.

The Mavericks are out-scoring the opposition, 60.0/53.8, while out-shooting foes from the floor, 39.4%/35.8%, and holding down a 38.1/35.4 rebounding advantage.

UT-Arlington is paced freshman center Rebekah Van Dijk, who is averaging 12.9 points and 10.3 rebounds-per-game, and senior guard Chaun Williams, who is averaging 9.1 points and 3.5 rebounds a contest.

The Mavericks defeated the Cajuns, 57-51, back on February 7 in Lafayette.
