Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun women’s basketball team is back in action on Thursday, when coach Garry Brodhead’s squad plays host to the Appalachian St. Mountaineers in a Sun Belt Conference affair at the Cajundome.

Tip-off time is scheduled for 5 o’clock, and you can hear the game on ESPN 1420 & espn1420.com, beginning with the pregame show at 4:45 pm.

The game will be the first game of a short two-game homestand for the Cajuns, and will be the opening game of a day/night, women’s/men’s doubleheader, with the UL men taking on Appalachian St. at 7:15 pm.

Louisiana, who has won six their last seven games, defeated Texas St., 83-81, in double overtime on Saturday, to improve to 14-6, overall, and 6-5 in league play, while  Appalachian St., who defeated Georgia Southern, 77-74, last Thursday, is currently 10-9, and 5-5, respectively.

UL is currently in fifth-place in the Sun Belt Conference, only one game out of third-place, while Appalachian St. is one-half game behind, in sixth-place.

The Cajuns are out-scoring the opposition, 62.4/58.8, while being out-shot by foes from the floor, 41.4%/36.4%, and out-rebounded, 38.4/38.0.

Louisiana is paced by sophomore guard Jaylin Gordon, who leads the team in scoring, at 13.7 points-per-game, and junior guard Kia Wilridge, who is second on the team in scoring, first in rebounding, and second in assists at 12.8, 5.3, and 2.7, respectively.

The Mountaineers are being out-scored by the opposition, 73.7/70.8, out-shot by foes, 42.0%/41.8%, and out-rebounded, 40.1/38.9.

Appalachian St. is paced by senior forward Maryah Sydnor, who is averaging 18.1 points, to go along with 9.2 rebounds a contest, and senior guard Katie Mallow, who is averaging 11.7 points and 2.7 rebounds-per-game.

Louisiana will be going for the two-game season sweep, after defeating Appalachian St., 63-51, back on January 5 in Boone, North Carolina.
