Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun women’s basketball team fell on the road in Sun Belt Conference on Saturday, dropping a 56-42 decision to the UT-Arlington Mavericks in Arlington Texas.

With the win, UT-Arlington completes a two-game series sweep, after defeating Louisiana, 57-51, back on February 7, in Lafayette.

The Cajuns led, 18-17, with 3:01 to go in the first half, before the Mavericks went on an 8-0 run to end the half, to take a 25-18 lead into the locker room at halftime.

UT-Arlington out-shot Louisiana from the field in the first half, 41%-27%, while also out-rebounding UL, 21-15, over the first 20 minutes.

Rebekah Van Dijk led the way for the Mavericks in the first half, scoring 9 points, while Jaylin Gordon had 5 at the break for the Cajuns.

Louisiana got to within four points, 29-25, with 14:31 remaining, but that was as close as the Cajuns would get, as the Mavericks went on to the 14-point victory.

UT-Arlington out-shot Louisiana from the field, 44%-30%, while also finishing with a 42-25 rebound advantage.

Van Dijk led the way for the Mavericks, finishing with 18 points and 3 rebounds, while Chaun Williams added 11 points and 7 rebounds.

In a losing cause for the Cajuns, Keke Veal finished with 14 points and 4 rebounds, while Robbie Brown chipped in with 9 points and 3 rebounds.

With the victory, UT-Arlington improved to 15-10, overall, and 9-7 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Louisiana dropped to 17-9, overall, and 9-8 in league play.

The Cajuns return to action on Saturday, February 28, when they play host to Georgia Southern in Sun Belt Conference play.
