Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun women’s basketball team fell on the road in Sun Belt Conference on Saturday, dropping a 68-63 decision to the Troy Trojans in Troy, Alabama.

With the win, Troy swept the two-game series series, after defeating Louisiana, 60-55,  back on January 3 at the Cajundome.

The Trojans led wire-to-wire and took a 34-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Troy out-shot Louisiana from the field in the first half, 43%-19%, while also out-rebounding UL, 27-19, over the first 20 minutes.

Ashley Beverly-Kelley led the way for the Trojans n the first half, scoring 9 points, while Jaylin Gordon had 11 at the break for the Cajuns.

Troy extended their lead to a game-high 18 points, 53-35, with 8:43 to go, and continued to lead by 11 points, 63-49, with 2:53 remaining, before Louisiana went on an 11-1 run, cutting the Troy lead to 4 points, 64-60, at the :34 mark.

That was as close as the Cajuns would get however, as the Trojans hung on 5-point victory.

Troy out-shot Louisiana from the field, 43%-30%, while also finishing with a 50-41 rebound advantage.Beverly-Kelley led the way for the Trojans, finishing with 20 points and 5 rebounds, while Ronita Garrett added 14 points and a game-high 19 rebounds.

In a losing cause for the Cajuns, Gordon finished with 20 points and 6 rebounds, while Kia Wilridge chipped in with 18 points and 3 rebounds.

With the victory, Troy improved to 15-9, overall, and 10-5 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Louisiana dropped to 16-8, overall, and 8-7 in league play.

The Cajuns return to action on Thursday, when they play host to the Texas St. Bobcats at the Cajundome.
