Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun women’s basketball team fell on the road in Sun Belt Conference action on Thursday afternoon, dropping a 57-47 decision to the South Alabama Jaguars in Mobile, Alabama.

The loss, only the second for Louisiana in their last six games, evened their win/loss record on their current three-game road streak, 1-1.

The win by South Alabama snapped a 14-game losing streak, gave them their first conference win of the season, and avenged a 65-58 loss to the Cajuns back on January 17 in Lafayette.

The Jaguars never trailed, scoring the first seven points of the game, before UL scored 8 of the next 10 points, to trim the USA lead to 9-8 at the 14:30 mark.

Later in the half, at the 5:01 mark, and leading, 17-14, the Jaguars went on a 7-2 run the rest of the half, to take a 24-16 lead into the locker room at halftime.

South Alabama out-shot Louisiana from the floor in the first half, 43%-18%, while holding down a 27-17 rebound advantage.

Chyna Ellis led the way for the Jaguars over the first 20 minutes, with 11 points, while Keke Veal had 10 points at the break for the Cajuns.

South Alabama extended their lead to a game-high 12 points, 35-23, at the 15:18 mark, before Louisiana got to within five points, 43-39, with 6:38 remaining.

That's as close as the Cajuns would get however, as the Jaguars went on to score 14 of the final 22 points, to secure the 10-point win.

South Alabama out-shot Lousiana from the field, 47%-24%, while also finishing with a 49-34 rebounding edge.Ellis led the way for the Jaguars, finishing with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Breanna Hall added 12 points and 5 rebounds.

In a losing cause for the Cajuns, Veal had 14 points and 4 rebounds, while Kia Wilridge chipped in with 12 points and 3 rebounds.

With the victory, South Alabama improved to 4-15, overall, and 1-9 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Louisiana slipped to 13-6, and 5-5, respectively.

The Cajuns return to action, and conclude their three-game road trip, on Saturday, when they travel to take on Texas St.
