Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun women’s basketball team recorded a big Sun Belt Conference home victory on Thursday, defeating the Texas St. Bobcats, 64-41, at the Cajundome.

With the win, Louisiana swept the two-game series series, after downing Texas St., 83-81, in overtime, back on January 31 in San Marcos, Texas, and gave them nine wins in their last 13 tries.

The Cajuns led wire-to-wire, holding the Bobcats without a field goal for the first 12:45 of the first half, and took a 34-15 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Louisiana out-shot Texas St. from the field in the first half, 42%-14%, while being out-rebounded, 20-19, over the first 20 minutes.

Keke Veal led the way for the Cajuns in the first half, scoring 16 points, while Ericka May and Jacqueline Jeffcoat each had 4 at the break for the Bobcats.

Louisiana began the second half strong, holding Texas St. without a basket for the first 3:41 of the half, extending 19 points, 36-17.

From there, the Cajuns just put it in cruise control, as they breezed to the 23-point win, their second-largest margin of victory this season, and largest conference win.

Louisiana out-shot Texas St. from the field, 42%-21%, holding the Bobcats to only nine field goals, while forcing 19 turnovers.

Veal led the way for the Cajuns, finishing with 23 points and 4 rebounds, with Kia Wilrdge and Jaylin Gordon each adding 12 points apiece, while Robbie Brown chipped in with 10 points, making it four Cajuns that scored double-digit points.

In a losing cause for the Bobcatsn, Erin Peoples finished with 9 points and 5 rebounds, while Ayriel Anderson Taeler Deer each had 8.

With the victory, Louisiana improved to 17-8, overall, and 9-7 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Texas St. dropped to 15-10, overall, and 10-6 in league play.

The Cajuns return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Arlington, Texas to take on the UT-Arlngton Mavericks in Sun Belt Conference play.
