The 7th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun softball team recorded two more wins on the second day of play of the Mardi Gras Classic on Saturday, defeating the Mississippi Valley St. Devilettes, 20-0, before blanking the Idaho St. Bengals, 3-0, at Lamson Park.

The two wins extended Louisiana’s season-opening win streak to eight games, and gave them four win in four tries in the tournament.

In their first game, against Mississippi Valley St., the Cajuns scored four runs in the top half of the first inning, courtesy of a two-run home run by Aleah Craighton, and never looked back, en route to the five-inning, mercy-rule, 20-run victory.

Craigthon went 4-for-5, with a double, a home run, and 5 runs batted in, while Kelli Martinez went 3-for-3, as Louisiana out-hit Mississippi Valley St., 12-4.

Freshman right-hander Kylee Jo Trahan (2-0) recorded the complete-game win, allowing only four hits, while walking one and striking out ten.

In their second game of the day, against Idaho St., the Cajuns scored two runs in the third inning, and then added another run with a Shellie Landry solo homer in the fifth inning, to cruise to the shutout win.

Landry, Samantha Walsh, and Lexie Elkins all had RBI's for UL, who out-hit the Bengals, 7-6.

Sophomore right-hander Alex Stewart (4-0) recorded the win for Louisiana, tossing five shutout innings, while Jordan Wallace pitched two perfect innings in relief to pick up the save.

With the two shutout wins, UL has now out-scored the opposition, 83-1, through the first 8 games of the 2015 season.

With the two wins, Louisiana improved to 8-0 on the young season.

The Cajuns will wrap-up play in the tournament on Sunday, taking on Idaho St. at 12:30 pm.
