The 23rd-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team opened up their 2012 college softball season in impressive fashion on Saturday, defeating Rutgers, 15-1, and #24 Tulsa, 19-4, in mercy-rule fashion at the 26th Annual Louisiana Classics Tournament at Lamson Park.

In the opener, UL scored nine runs in the the first two innings, and rolled to a 15-1 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, in a five-inning mercy-rule win.

The Cajuns, who hammered out 13 hit, got homers from Christi Orgeron and Paige Cormier, while Orgeron and Brianna Cherry drove in four runs apiece.

In the circle, freshman Jordan Wallace got the start, pitching two perfect innings, while sophomore Allie Chenault picked up the win, pitching three innings in relief.

In the second game, Louisiana crushed the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, 19-4, in six innings.

The Cajuns scored the first seven runs of the game, and then pushed 11 runs across the plate in the sixth inning.

Orgeron continued her early season rampage, going 4-for-5, with two runs scored, another homer, and six rbi's, while Cherry also went 4-for-5, with three runs, and three rbi's.

Cormier also continued to swing a hot stick, homering twice, to move her early season total to three.

Wallace started again, pitching four innings to pick up her first collegiate victory, while Ashley Brignac threw the final two frames.
