UL senior pitcher Jordan Wallace

The 9th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team opened up their 2015 regular season  schedule in impressive fashion on Friday, defeating the North Carolina St. Wolfpack, 6-0, on the first day of play in the Louisiana Classics at Lamson Park.

Louisiana jumped on the scoreboard first, plating a run in the top half of the first inning, when a fielder's choice ground ball off the bat of Samantha Walsh scored Haley Hayden, who led off the frame with a single, to grab a 1-0 advantage.

The score stayed that way until the top half of the third inning, when Kelsey Vincent blasted a three-run home run to right-centerfield, scoring Shellie Landry and pinch-runner Cassidy White, to extend the Cajuns' lead to 4-0.

Hayden gave Louisiana an insurance run with a solo homer in the top of the sixth, to wrap-up the scoring, as UL out-hit the Wolfpack, 9-2.

The big story of opening day may have been the pitching of Jordan Wallace however. The  senior right-hander tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout, while striking out 13 N.C. State hitters.

With the win, Louisiana improved to 1-0 on the season, while North Carolina St. fell to 0-1.

The Cajuns are in action twice on Saturday, taking on Central Arkansas at 12:30 pm, before squaring off with Eastern Illinois at 3 o'clock.
