The 11th-ranked Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun softball team begins NCAA Regional play on Friday evening, hosting the Weber St. Wildcats in the first day of play in the Lafayette, La. Regional at Lamson Park.

First-pitch is scheduled for 8 o’clock, and you can hear all three games on ESPN 1420 & espn1420.com beginning with the pre-game show at 7:45 pm.

The match-up will be the second game of the first day of play in the regional, with Baylor taking on Mississippi St. at 5:30 pm.

Louisiana, the regular season Sun Belt Conference Champions, will be appearing in their 25th regional in the last 26 years.

The Cajuns, who will enter the regional will an overall record of 39-9, will also be hosting a regional for the third time in the last four years.

Louisiana, the top-seed in the regional, qualified for the Women's College World Series in 2014, the sixth time in program history, and played in a Super Regional for the third-consecutive year, as well as the fourth time in the last five years.

Offensively, Louisiana is hitting a .351, along with 106 home runs, 362 runs batted in, and 59 stolen bases in 69 attempts, while out-scoring foes, 401-114.

The 106 homers they’ve belted as a team this season are a school record, eclipsing the previous record set back in 2006.

Junior catcher Lexie Elkins has hit 29 home runs this season, one shy of the school record set by Danyele Gomez back in 2006.

Pitching-wise, the Cajuns sport an overall, combined, team ERA. of 2.17, compared to a 8.63 for the opposition, while holding foes to a .182 batting average against.

Weber St., who qualified for their first-ever regional by winning the Big Sky Tournament, will enter the match-up with an overall record of 35-17.

The Wildcats are hitting a .323 as a team, along with 34 home runs, 284 runs driven in, and 59 stolen bases in 70 attempts, while out-scoring opponents, 323-208.

In the circle, Weber St. currently has an overall, combined, team ERA. of 3.22, while holding opponents to a .253 batting average against.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

The winner will face the Baylor/Mississippi St. winner on Saturday at 3:30 pm, while the two losers will meet in an elimination game at 6 o'clock on Saturday night.
