The 5th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with the 19th-ranked Baylor Bears on Tuesday night in Waco, Texas, dropping the first game, 2-0, before coming back to win the nightcap, 4-3.

The split gives the Cajuns 3 wins in 5 games against ranked teams this season.

Baylor got on the scoreboard first in the opener, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the third inning, when Shelby Friudenberg hit a bloop double to right field, scoring Kyla Walker and Jessie Scroggins, giving them a 2-0 lead.

That was all that Baylor right-hander Heather Stearns (13-2) needed, as she tossed a 4-hit shutout, while striking out 7, without allowing a walk.

Alex Stewart (12-1) suffered her first loss of the year inside of the circle for Louisiana, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 2 in 6 innings.

The Bears, who outhit the Cajuns, 7-4, were led at the plate by Friudenberg, who drove in the only two runs of the game.

In a losing cause for UL, Lexie Elkins had two of the four hits.

In the second game it was Louisiana who got on the scoreboard first, when they loaded the bases in the top half of the 5th inning, before senior first baseman Kelsey Vincent crushed a grand slam home run, her 7th homer of the giving them a 4-0 lead.

Baylor got closer in the bottom half of the frame, scoring 2 runs on 4 hits, to cut the deficit to 4-2.

The Bears drew even closer in the bottom half of the 6th inning, plating an unearned run, cutting the UL advantage to 4-3.

That was as close as the Bears would get however, as the Cajuns hung on for the win, and the doubleheader split.

Louisiana, who was outhit by Baylor, 8-4, was led at the plate by Vincent, who drove in all four runs with the grand slam homer.

Stewart (13-1), who pitched both ends of the doubleheader, picked-up the win in the circle for the Cajuns, scattering 8 hits, while allowing 3 runs, including two earned, and one walk, while striking out five.

Kendal Potts (10-1) suffered the loss for the Bears, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits in 5.1 innings of work.

With the twinbill split Louisiana moved to 25-3 on the season, while Baylor is now 27-7.

The Cajuns return to action this weekend, when they host Texas St. in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Lamson Park.
