The 6th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun softball team will take on the McNeese St. Cowgirls this weekend, in one of their five games in the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational at Lamson Park.

Louisiana will face McNeese St. on Sunday at 2:30 pm, in the final game of the tournament.

McNeese St., members of the Southland Conference, is currently 7-3 on the young season, with wins over Florida Gulf Coast, FIU, Southern Miss, Houston, UMASS, Stephen F. Austin, and DePaul, and setbacks to Alabama, South Alabama, and Stephen F. Austin, after going 40-17 in 2014.

Offensively, the Cowgirls are hitting a .296, along with 8 home runs, 41 runs batted in, and 19 stolen bases, after hitting a .289 with 30 homers, 252 RBI’s, and 100 steals in 120 attempts last season.

At the plate, McNeese St. is led by senior outfielder Lauren Langner, who is hitting a .438, after hitting a .372 in 2014, and freshman third baseman Hailey Drew, who is currently batting a .421 with three homers and ten RBI's.

In the circle, the Cowgirls features junior right-hander Emily Vincent, who is currently 4-0 with a 0.64 ERA., along with 12 strikeouts in 22.0 innings pitched, one season after finishing 4-3 with a 3.50 ERA. in 2014.

Junior right-hander Jamie Allred, who won 27 games last season, and sophomore right-hander Rachel Smith, who tallied 8 victories in the circle in 2014, also return, and have combined for three wins in 2015.

Pitching-wise, McNeese St. has an overall combined team ERA. of 2.57, after compiling an overall team ERA. of 1.86 a season ago.

The Cajuns will play Iowa on Friday at 2:30 pm, before taking on Hofstra at 5 o’clock.

On Saturday, Louisiana plays twice more, facing Hofstra at 12:30 pm, before taking on Missouri St. at 3 o’clock.

UL wraps-up play in the tournament on Sunday at 2:30 pm, when they face McNeese St.
