The 20th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball team opens up Sun Belt Conference play on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Atlanta, Georgia to take on the Georgia St. Panthers, in the opening game of a three-game, weekend, league series.

Louisiana, who swept a non-conference doubleheader from Sam Houston St. on Wednesday evening at Lamson Park, winning by scores of 6-0 and 4-2, is currently riding a four-game win streak, and is 19-6-1 on the season.

Georgia St., who lost to #9 Alabama, 3-1 on Wednesday night, will come into the series at 13-13 on the year.

Offensively, the Cajuns are currently hitting a .299 as a team, which ranks third in the Sun Belt Conference, along with 40 home runs, 148 RBI’s, and 16 stolen bases.

Louisiana is led by senior second baseman Natalie Fernandez, who leads the conference in hitting (.506) and on-base percentage (.596) and freshman outfielder Hayley Hayden, who leads the conference in both home runs (9) and RBI’s (31).

Sophomore catcher Lexie Elkins (.355-8-28) and sophomore first baseman Kelsey Vincent (.344-4-16) are also above the .300 mark.

The Panthers are hitting a .302 as a team, which ranks second in the league, along with 21 home runs and 27 stolen bases.

Offensively, Georgia St. is paced by sophomore shortstop Taylor Anderson, who is hitting a .397 with four homers and 25 runs batted in, and junior first baseman Lauren Coleman, who is batting a .360 with five homers and 26 RBI's.

Pitching-wise, Louisiana brings a an overall team ERA. of 3.49 into the series, which ranks sixth in the league. Junior right-hander Christina Hamilton is currently 9-1, with a 1.23 ERA., while junior right-hander Jordan Wallace is 8-2, with a 3.85 ERA.

Georgia St., who brings a combined team ERA. of 4.43 into the series, which ranks seventh, is paced by senior right-hander Kaitlyn Medlam, who is 7-6, with a 3.12 ERA.

First-pitch for Saturday doubleheader is scheduled for noon (cdt), with an 11 am single game set for Sunday.
