The 15th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun softball team will be on the road this weekend, when they take part in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Regional at Tiger Park.

Louisiana will be part of a field that includes top-seeded LSU, along with McNeese St. and Fairfield in the four-team double-elimination regional, which is scheduled to be played Friday-Sunday.

The Cajuns will play their first game against McNeese St. (42-16), with the winner facing the LSU (41-18)/Fairfield (26-26) winner.

Louisiana, who won the regular season Sun Belt Conference championship, as well the league’s postseason tournament, will be making their 19th-consecutive NCAA Regional appearance, and 27th in the last 28 years.

The only year since 1990 in which Louisiana failed to appear in a regional was 1998.

Louisiana, who is 45-6 on the season, is one of only 9 programs to appear in an NCAA Regional every year since 2000, joining Alabama, Arizona, Florida St., Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, UCLA, and Washington.

The winner of the Baton Rouge, La. Regional, would advance to Super Regional play, and take on the winner of the Tallahassee, Florida Regional, which will feature Florida St., Georgia, Princeton, and Jacksonville St..

Florida, Arizona, Oregon, and Florida St. are the top four seeds in the tournament.

The other nationals seeds are UCLA, Washington, Auburn, and Tennessee, at 5-8, respectively.

Those 8 teams will also host Super Regionals, if they win in the opening round.

Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Utah, and Ole Miss are seeded 9-12, while LSU, Kentucky, Baylor, and Alabama are the 13-16 seeds.
