The 6th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team wrapped-up a perfect record in the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational on Sunday, defeating the Alcorn St. Lady Braves, 9-0, at Lamson Park.

Junior right-hander Victoria Brown tossed a 5-inning no-hitter, the third no-hitter of the weekend, in 4 games, by the Louisiana staff.

Louisiana, who won the game in mercy-rule fashion, finished the tournament with an undefeated 4-0 record, won all four game via the mercy-rule, defeating Rutgers and Alcorn St., each twice.

Louisiana got on the scoreboard first, plating two runs in the bottom half of the first inning, when senior catcher Lexie Elkins drove home junior second baseman with a sacrifice fly, prior to senior first baseman Kelsey Vincent  driving home senior left-fielder Shelline Landry, giving them a quick 2-0 lead.

The Cajuns added another run in the bottom half of the second inning, when sophomore shortstop D.J. Sanders led off with a double, and then scored on a single off the bat of senior designated player Sara Corbello, extending their advantage to 3-0.

Louisiana put another run on the board in the bottom half of the third inning, when sophomore centerfielder Aleah Craighton doubled with two outs, and then scored on a Sanders two-out single, widening the lead to 4-0.

The Cajuns put the game away in the bottom half of the fourth inning, scoring 5 runs on 4 hits, including two-run singles by Vincent and Sanders, to extend the lead to 9-0.

That was al UL needed, as they went on to the 5-inning, 9-run win.

Louisiana, who outhit Alcorn St., 10-0, was led at the plate by Sanders, who went 3-for-3, along with a double and 3 runs batted in, while Craighton went 2-or-3 with 2 runs, and Vincent had 3 RBI's.

Brown (2-0) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, tossing the 5-inning no-hitter, without allowing a walk, while striking out 10 batters, a career-high.

The only Alcorn St. hitter to reach against Brown was Shelby Peavey, who reached on a one-out error in the 4th inning error.

Jazmin Castillo suffered the loss for the Lady Braves.

With the victory, Louisiana improved to 14-1 on the season, while Alcorn St. dropped to 4-9.

The Cajuns return to action on Saturday/Sunday, when they travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to take on the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in a three-game, weekend, non-conference series.
