The 8th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun softball team suffered a road setback on Sunday, falling to the Georgia Southern Eagles, 2-0, in Statesboro, Georgia.

With the victory, Georgia Southern was able to salvage to final game of the three-game, weekend, Sun Belt Conference series, after Louisiana won both ends of Saturday's doubleheader, by scores of 5-0 and 12-1.

With the two wins on Saturday, the Cajuns were able to nail down the regular season Sun Belt Conference title, their third-straight, and 14th in the last 16 seasons, as well as the top-seed in the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

The loss put an end UL’s 14-game Sun Belt Conference win streak, while also ending their overall win streak at 5 games.

With the win, Georgia Southern improved to 29-24, overall, and 12-9 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Louisiana fell to 37-7, and 18-2, respectively.

Each team had their chances early, but failed to score, with Georgia Southern leaving the bases loaded in the bottom half of the first inning, while Louisiana left the bases loaded in both the second and third innings.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard first, scoring a run in the bottom half of the third inning on a solo home run by centerfielder Emily Snider, her 5th of the year, to grab a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles added another run on another solo homer in the bottom half of the fourth inning, this one of the bat of catcher A.J. Hamilton, to extend their advantage to 2-0.

That was all that Georgia Southern needed, as they held on to the 2-run shutout win.

The Eagles, who outhit the Cajuns, 10-3, were led at the plate by Snider and Hamilton, who both homered, while UL was limited to 3 hits, including two infield singles.
