The 5th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team recorded another Sun Belt Conference win on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Troy Trojans, 8-0, in Troy, Alabama.

The win, in 5-inning mercy-rule fashion, gave Louisiana, who has now won 19 of their last 20 games, a sweep in the three-game, Sun Belt Conference, Easter weekend series.

The Cajuns swept a doubleheader from Troy on Friday, winning the opening game, 11-0, before taking the second game, 8-1.

UL ended up outscoring Troy in the series, 27-1, and outhitting them 29-10, while crushing 8 home runs.

Senior left-fielder Shellie Landry went 6-for-10 with 3 home runs and 8 RBI's over the weekend, while senior designated player Sara Corbello went 5-for-9 with 3 homers and 6 RBI's.

For the third-consecutive game Louisiana scored at a run in the top half first of the first inning, tis time plating 8 runs on 6 hits.

Senior left-fielder Shellie Landry walked, moved to third on a double by senior catcher Lexie Elkins, and then scored on a run-scoring single off the bat of senior first baseman Kelsey Vincent, making it 1-0.

UL was far from done however, as sophomore centerfielder Aleah Craighton doubled, scoring Elkins, before sophomore shortstop D.J. Sanders blasted a 2-run home run, and then senior designated player Sara Corbello followed with a solo shot, making it 6-0.

Louisiana still wasn't done however, as Landry tripled, scoring two runs, giving her 8 runs batted in in the series, to widen their advantage to 8-0 after only one-half inning.

As it turned out, those were the only run of the game, as the Cajuns coasted to the 8-run mercy-rule win, and the series sweep.

Louisiana, who outhit Troy, 7-1, was led at the plate by Sanders, who went 2-for-3, along with a homer, a triple, a runs scored, and 2 RBI's, while Corbello also homered.

In the circle for the Cajuns, Alex Stewart (12-0), stayed perfect on the year, recording her 12th win of the year without a defeat, tossing a two-hit, 5-inning shutout, while striking out 5 batters.

Alex Rainey (11-8) suffered the loss for the Trojans, allowing 5 runs on 4 hits in only one-third of an inning.

With the victory, Louisiana improved to 25-2, overall, and 7-1 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Troy fell aighton to 21-10, and 4-5, respectively.

The Cajuns return to the diamond on Tuesday, when they travel to Waco, Texas to take on the Baylor Bears in a non-conference doubleheader.
