Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun softball team opened up NCAA Regional play with a victory on Friday night, defeating the Weber St. Wildcats, 11-0, at Lamson Park.

The game ended after four-and-a-half innings, via the mercy-rule.

Louisiana, the top-seed, will now move on in the winners bracket, where they will take on the Baylor Bears on Saturday afternoon.

The Cajuns got on the scoreboard first, scoring a run in the bottom half of the first inning, when Shellie Landry tripled with one out, and then scored on a fielders choice ground ball off the bat of Lexie Elkins, giving them a quick 1-0 lead.

Louisiana added three more runs in the bottom half of the second inning, all with two outs, when Kelli Martinez walked, and then scored on a Hayley Hayden two-run home run to left-field, before Shellie Landry followed with a homer of her own, extending the advantage to 4-0.

The Cajuns put the game completely out of reach in the bottom half of the third inning, scoring seven runs on only two hits, with one of those being a three-run homer by Elkins, her 30th of the season, which tied Danyele Gomez for the single-season UL home run record, making the score 11-0.

That wrapped-up the scoring, as UL cruised to the 11-run mercy-rule win, outhitting Weber St., 6-1.

Landry led the way at the plate for Louisiana, going 2-for-2, including a homer, a triple, a walk, and three runs scored, while Hayden and Elkins both added homers.

Christina Hamilton (12-2) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, tossing four no-hit innings, while McCauley Flint (14-8) suffered the loss for the Wildcats.
