The 11th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team won the first two games on their 2016 regular season schedule on Friday, cruising to easy mercy-rule wins over the Ball St. Cardinals and the UAB Blazers in the first day of play in the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Louisiana defeated Ball St. in their season opener, 22-4, before downing UAB, 15-0, in their second game of the day, both in five innings.

In the opener, the Cajuns broke open a scoreless tie with 15 runs in their half of the third inning, to help them to the season-opening win.

Lexie Elkins led a 17-hit UL attack, going 2-for-4, including a double and a home runs, while driving in a game-high 5 runs.

Kelsey Vincent got in on the act, got in on the act, going 3-for-4, including a homer and 4 runs batted in, while Hayley Hayden chipped in, going 3-for-4 with 4 RBI's.

Victoria Brown (1-0) recorded the win in the circle, allowing only one earned run over 3 innings of work.

In the second game, Louisiana scored three runs in the first inning, before adding six in the third, and then six more in the fourth, to help propel them to the 15-0 shutout win over UAB.

D>J. Sanders paved the way for a 15-hit Cajun attack, going 3-for-3, including 2 home runs and 5 runs batted in, while Elkins went 4-for-4, including a double, a homer and 3 RBI's, with Vincent adding a solo homer.

Shellie Landry added a fifth UL homer of the game, a grand slam, as she finished with 4 RBI's.

Alex Stewart picked up the win in the circle, twirling 4 innings of shutout softball.

Louisiana, who is off to a 20 start, returns to action on Saturday in the second day of the tournament on Saturday, taking on Southeast Missouri St. at noon, before meeting Samford at 6 o'clock.
