Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun softball team is ranked 8th in this week's ESPN.COM/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll.

Louisiana is 4-0 on the young 2014 college softball season, after defeating North Carolina St., Central Arkansas, and Eastern Illinois, twice, last weekend, in the Louisiana Classics.

The Cajuns return to action this weekend, when they play host to the Mardi Gras Classic at Lamson Park. UL will play twice on Friday, against Idaho St. (2:30 pm) and Mississippi Valley St. (5 o'clock), twice more on Saturday, against Mississippi Valley St. (2:30 pm) and Idaho St. (5 o'clock), and once on Sunday, Idaho St. (2 o'clock).

Getting back to the poll, the Florida Gators, at 5-0, are the top-ranked team, receiving 17 of a possible 20 first-place votes.

The 6-0 Washington Huskies, the only other team to receive a first-place vote in the poll, with three, are in the number two spot.

In the number three position, it's the Oklahoma Sooners, who are 5-0 on the young season.

The Alabama Crimson Tide, who are unbeaten, at 6-0, check in at number four this week.

The Florida St. Seminoles, who are 3-1 to begin the season, round out the top five.

At spots 6-10, it’s Kentucky, Michigan, Louisiana, Georgia, and UCLA.

Baylor, Minnesota, Arizona, Tennessee, and Washington are in spots 11-15, while LSU, Auburn, Missouri, Notre Dame, and Nebraska hold down spots 16-20 in the poll.

Finally, at 21-25, it’s Arizona St., Texas A&M, California, Tulsa, and South Alabama.
