UL Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Stony Brook

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with the Stony Brook Seawolves on Saturday at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field, dropping the first game, 4-1, before coming back to take the second game, 2-1.
With the split, Louisiana has now won three of their last four.
In the opener, Stony Brook got on the scoreboard first, when Johnny Caputo doubled to lead off the second inning, advanced to third on a single off the bat Andrew Gazzola, and then scored on a safety squeeze bunt by Toby Handley, giving them a 1-0 lead.
Bobby Honeyman then followed with a single, scoring Gazzola, to extend the advantage to 2-0, before the Seawolves added an unearned run, to make the lead 3-0.
Stony Brook tallied another unearned in the top half of the third, making the lead 4-0.
The Cajuns scored their only run in the bottom half of the sixth, when Evan Powell drove home Stefan Trosclair with a two-out single, cutting the lead to 4-1.
That was as close as Louisiana would get however, as Stony Brook went on to the 3-run win, out-hitting UL, 9-5.
Daniel Zamora (1-0) recorded the win for the Seawolves, twirling six innings of 1-run baseball, while Chris Charpentier (0-2) suffered the loss for the Cajuns.
In the nightcap, it was Louisiana scoring first, when Nick Thurman drove home Greg Davis with a two-out single in the bottom of the fourth inning, giving them a 1-0 lead.
Stony Brook tied the game, 1-1, in the top of the sixth, when Jeremy Giles doubled to lead off the inning, and later scored on a one-out single off the bat of Robert Chavarria.
The Cajuns scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Tyler Girouard delivered a clutch two-out single, scoring Davis, as Louisiana went on the win the rubber game, 2-1, out-hitting Stony Brook, 6-3, in the process.
Freshman Dylan Moore (1-0) picked-up the win in relief of starter Greg Milhorn for the Cajuns, while Edwin Corniel (0-1) suffered the loss for the Seawolves.

With the doubleheader split, Louisiana moved to 4-3 on the young 2015 season, while Stony Brook now stands at 2-4.
The Cajuns return to action on Tuesday night, when they host McNeese St. in a non-conference match-up.
