The seventh-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun baseball team was victorious on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Texas Southern Tigers, 13-0, in the middle game of a three-game, weekend, non-conference series, at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

The win follows a 5-4 win over Texas Southern on Friday night, and allows Louisiana to go for the series sweep on Sunday.

The Cajuns got on the board first, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the first inning, when Tyler Girouard tripled to right-center, scoring Michael Strentz and Blake Trahan, who were both hit by pitches earlier in the inning, to take a 2-0 lead.

The score stayed that way until the bottom of the fifth, when Jace Conrad singled home Girouard, before a Ryan Leonards ground-out scored Caleb Adams, extending the Louisiana lead to 4-0.

The Cajuns put things completely out of reach in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Conrad blasted a grand slam home home, to make it 8-0.

UL added another run in the seventh, and then four more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, as they went on to their fifth shutout win of the year.

Dylan Butler went 3-for-5 at the plate for Louisiana, along with a double, and a run batted in, while Conrad went 2-for-4, to go along with his grand slam, and five RBI's.

Carson Baranik (3-0) tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout, allowing one walk, while striking out five, as he faced only one over the minimum.

Ryan Rios (2-2) suffered the loss for the Tigers.

With the win, Louisiana improved to 12-2 on the season, while Texas Southern fell to 5-11.

The two teams will wrap-up their series with a single game on Sunday, beginning at 1 o'clock.
