Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun baseball team will begin their quest for a berth in the 2014 College World Series on Friday, when they play host to the Lafayette, La. NCAA Regional at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.

Louisiana, the #6-overall national seed, is the top-seed in the regional, which also features the second-seeded Mississippi St. Bulldogs, the third-seeded San Diego St. Aztecs, and the fourth-seeded Jackson St. Tigers.

Louisiana, who won the regular season Sun Belt Conference championship, as well the postseason Sun Belt Conference Tournament title, will head into the weekend with an overall record of 53-7, the best record in the nation.

The Cajuns will take on Jackson St. (31-23), winners of the SWAC Tournament last weekend, in their first game, Friday evening at 6 o’clock.

The other match-up will feature Mississippi St. (37-22), out of the SEC, and San Diego St. (42-19), representing the Mountain West Conference, in the regional opener at 1 pm on Friday afternoon.

The two will meet on Saturday night at 6 o’clock in a winners bracket game, while the two losers will meet in an elimination game at 1 pm on Saturday.

A capacity crowd is expected at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field, and UL junior pitcher Carson Baranik says that’s a big advantage for the Cajuns, especially because of their experience in postseason play.

UL junior second baseman Jace Conrad says that to win the regional, the Cajuns just have to take care of the obstacles placed in front of them.
