UL Baseball Officially Announces 2019 Schedule

Louisiana Ragin' Cajun baseball coach Tony Robichaux officially announced the 2019 schedule today.

One big change fans will notice is the start time of Friday night and midweek home games moving back to 30 minutes to a 6:30 scheduled first pitch.

Louisiana has 7 seven opponents on the 2019 schedule who played in the 2018 postseason.

"It’s never easy to put together a good schedule because it is all done so far in advance,” Robichaux said in a University press release. “You have to be able to protect your RPI by playing good opponents, but at the same time make sure we protect the investment that our fans have made in our program by bringing good opponents in to Russo Park. Bab (Anthony Babineaux) has done a great job with scheduling and this year looks to be another challenging schedule for us.”

Louisiana's early non-conference opponents at Russo Park have fans excited. Texas, who has a rich history with 6 National Championships, opens the season against the Cajuns.

One week later, Maryland, who advanced out of NCAA Regionals in 2014 and 2015 comes in for a 3 game series as well. The Terps are coached by Rob Vaughn, who took over last season for former Ragin' Cajun assistant John Szefc, who left Maryland after the 2017 season to become head coach at Virginia Tech.

In week 3 of the regular season, Louisiana hosts Loyola-Marymount.

“This year we have three really good non-conference teams coming in for weekend series,” Robichaux noted in the press release. “The series against Texas will be a tough one to start the year. They are a program that made it back to the College World Series a year ago. Both Maryland and Loyola Marymount are programs with tradition and compete at a high level.”
