Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball team fell in non-conference action on Friday, falling 9-2, to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, in the opening game of a three-game, weekend, non-conference series, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Southern Miss scored early, and often, knocking Louisiana starter Chase Traffica out the game after only 1.1 innings of work, while putting six runs on the scoreboard over the first three innings.

The Cajuns tried to get back in the game, plating single runs on the fifth and sixth innings, before the Golden Eagles put the game out of reach with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning, as they went on to the seven-run win.

Dillon Day, Michael Sterling, Tim Lynch, Mason Robbins, and Chase Fowler each banged out two hits in a 14-hit Southern Miss attack, while Ryan Wilson was the lone Louisiana player to record two hits in an eight-hit effort.

Andrew Pierce (4-0) threw a complete game eight-hitter for the Golden Eagles, allowing only two runs, with only one earned, while fanning ten batters.

Traffica (1-1) suffered the loss for the Cajuns, lasting only 1.1 innings, while giving up seven hits and five runs.

With the win, Southern Miss improved to 7-6, while Louisiana fell to 11-3.
