UL Baseball Falls To Santa Clara, 8-5 – Recap
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball fell in day two of the CenturyLink Bobcat Invitational on Sunday, dropping an 8-5 decision to the Santa Clara Broncos in San Marcos, Texas.
With the score tied, 2-2, in the top of the eighth inning, UL scored three runs, to make it 5-2, before Santa Clara scored six runs on only two hits in the bottom half of the inning, to take an 8-5 lead, and get the eventual win.
Cord Cockrell was tabbed with the loss for the Cajuns (1-1) after surrendering five runs (two earned) on one hit in 1.0 inning of work.
Jordan Nicholson had a quality start for UL limiting the Broncos (3-0) to just two runs on four hits with six strikeouts in 6.0 innings.
Paul Twining picked up the win for Santa Clara to move to 1-0 on the year.
Offensively, Dominick Francia and Chase Compton each had three hits for the Cajuns, while Ryan Leonards had a game-high two RBI after going 2-for-5 at the plate.
With the win, Santa Clara improves to 3-0, while UL dropped to 1-1.
The Cajuns will play Texas St., on Monday afternoon, at 2 pm.
