Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball team recorded a non-conference win on Wednesday evening, defeating the Nicholls St. Colonels, 5-1, at M.L "Tigue" Moore Field.

Louisiana scored first, as outfielder Dax Kjerstad opened the bottom of the first with an infield single, advanced to third on a one-out double by catcher Michael Strentz, and then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of third baseman Tyler Girouard, giving them a 1-0 lead.

Nicholls St. tied things up with a run in the fifth inning, before the Cajuns plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth, thanks to a two-run single by Kjerstad, who had three hits on the evening, to take a 5-1 lead.

Starting pitcher Ryan Wilson tossed the first seven innings, allowing only one run, before giving way to reliever Matt Hicks (2-0), who picked up his second win of the season, pitching two innings out of the bullpen.

Kelby Langston (0-1) suffered the loss for the Colonels.

With the win, Louisiana improved to 8-2 on the year, while Nicholls St. slipped to 6-3.

The Cajuns return to the diamond on Friday, hosting Sacred Heart in the opening game of a three-game, weekend, non-conference series.
