Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball team moved into the championship round of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, after defeating the Sam Houston St. Bearkats, 7-5, in an elimination game on Sunday afternoon, at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field in Baton Rouge, La.

Sam Houston St. scored three runs off of Louisiana starter Cody Boutte in the bottom half of the second inning, courtesy of four hits, with the highlight of the inning being a two-out, two-run home run by Ryan Farney, giving the Bearkats a 3-0 lead.

The Cajuns responded with seven unanswered runs, the first five unearned, with the first three coming in the top half of the third inning off of Sam Houston St. starter Andrew Godail. UL scored three unearned runs in the inning, on only one hit. That hit was a big one however, as Caleb Adams blasted a two-out, two run homer over the right-centerfield fence, knotting the game up, at 3-3.

Louisiana put up two more unearned runs in the top half of the fourth inning, with Chase Compton delivering a clutch, two-out single to right field, to help the Cajuns take a 5-3 advantage.

The Cajuns added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning, as Adams hit a two-out, two run homer, his second of the game, as UL went ahead 7-3.

Anthony Azar homered for Sam Houston St. in the bottom half of the ninth inning, and the Bearkats added another run, before loading the bases, but Louisiana closer Matt Hicks got Jessie Plumlee to pop out to short with the bases loaded, as the Cajuns held on for the two-run victory.

Adams finished the afternoon going 2-for-4 at the plate, with two home runs, two runs scored, and four RBI's.

Matt Plitt (4-1), who pitched seven innings of two-run relief, got the win for the Cajuns, with  Hicks recording his 11th save, while Godail (5-4) suffered the loss for the Bearkats.

The Cajuns won, despite getting out-hit, 9-5.

With the win, Louisiana improved to 43-19, while Sam Houston St. ended their season with a record of 38-22.

The Cajuns advance to take on LSU, the lone unbeaten team in the regional, on Sunday n night at 7 o'clock.

If LSU wins, the Tigers would advance to Super Regional play.

A win by Louisiana would force an if necessary game on Monday.
