Tyrone Mathieu, father of former star LSU corner back Tyrann Mathieu told WVUE-TV that the former LSU star defensive back checked into the Right Step center in Houston on Monday, and that he will not play football, nor attend college, this year.

There has been a lot of speculation about where Tyrann Mathieu would land after being dismissed from the LSU football team last Friday for violating team and school rules. Many thought he was headed to an FCS school, such as McNeese St., when his dismissal first became public, but then some recent speculation actually had Mathieu sitting out a year and then returning to play for LSU in 2013.

His future now is a big question mark. Mathieu is still eligible to play two more years of college football, but he still has to be academically eligible to play in 2013, which may be a chore if he misses a semester.

He is eiligible for the 2013 NFL Draft, if he elects to take that route, and it may not be completely out of the question for him to play in the Canadian Football League, the United Football League, or something similar.

That's jumping way ahead though. The most important thing now is for Mathieu, the 2011 Bednarik Award winner, to get his life straight, and I personally wish him well.
