Two Thursday night games involving Acadiana area schools kickoff the sixth week of the 2016 high school football schedule.

Yes, it's hard to believe, but the 2016 regular season is halfway done.

The three games are listed below:

Crowley at DeRidder:

This game marks the District 3-4A opener for both schools.

Crowley is 2-3, overall, but no doubt have a better team than their record would indicate. The Gents have lost three games by a combined nine points, and have quality wins over Cecilia, a 4A school, and DeQuincy, who is 3-2 on the season.

DeRidder, who is 1-4 on the year, has struggled, offensively, scoring only 66 points in five games, while being shutout twice. But at a closer look, the Dragons lost their first four games to teams that currently have a combined record of 17-3, before picking up their first win of the year last week, a 30-14 triumph over Westlake.

Jennings at Iota:

This will mark the District 4-3A opener for both schools.

Iota is only 1-4, but the Bulldogs have played a tough schedule, with losses to schools such as Sacred Heart (Ville Platte), Welsh, and Kinder, who have a combined record of 13-2.

The problem for Iota tonight is that it doesn't get any easier, taking on a Jennings team that is currently unbeaten, at 5-0. The Bulldogs are a scary bunch, averaging 37 points-per-game, while holding to opposition to an average of 17 points-per-game.

District 4-3A is a brutal district, with such schools as Jennings, South Beauregard, and Iowa, so these two will be jockeying a spot in the standings, as well as critical power points.
