The New Orleans Hornets went into Wednesday night's matchup with the intent to protect the basketball. It simply didn't happen as they turned it over 18 times on their way to an 93-87 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. The defeat negated two outstanding performances by Jarrett Jack (pictured left) and Trevor Ariza. It also dropped the Hornets to 3-11.

Jack tied his season-high with 27 points, including a perfect 4-4 performance from 3 point range. He also dished out 8 dimes.

Trevor Ariza returned to the lineup for the New Orleans last night after a groin injury had sidelined him for the last 8 games. He finished with 18 points, 7 assists and 4 steals -- all season highs.

Monty Williams used his 7th different starting lineup in 14 games this season. While Ariza's return was a nice sight for Williams' sore eyes, an Eric Gordon return would be even better. He was told back on January 6th that he'd have to rest his bruised knee for 2 to 3 weeks. Perhaps New Orleans will better protect the basketball once Williams' has some continuity with his lineup.

Marc Gasol was a Hornet killer Wednesday night at the Hive. The 7'1 Memphis Center scored a season-high 22 points and reeled in 12 rebounds.

The Hornets now travel to Houston to battle the Rockets tonight. Tip-off from the Toyota Center is set for 7:00.
