Top Two Men’s Seeds Gone at Wimbledon

A sore hip did defending champion Andy Murray in.

For Novak Djokovic, it was an elbow.

And, for the first time in 14 years, both of the top two men's seeds have been dispatched before the semifinals.

Murray led two sets to one in his quarterfinal match against #24 seed Sam Querry, but obviously was hampered down the stretch, losing twelve of the final 13 games of the match.  The American's 3-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 win places him in the semifinals, where he'll face #7 seed Marin Cilic of Croatia, who defeated Luxembourg's Gilles Muller in five sets.

Djokovic was forced to retire after two games in the second set of his match against #11 Tomas Berdych.

"It's the elbow. Over a year and a half it's been bothering me," Djokovic said after the match. "I probably spent about two and a half hours on the table today ... There's no way out if you don't feel fit. I'm going to talk to the specialist to find a long-term solution to solve it."

The injury could make the path easier for #3 seed Roger Federer, who is seeking his eighth Wimbledon title.  Federer had little trouble with Milos Raonic in his quarterfinal match, winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, 7-6.  This will be Federer's 12th semifinal appearance.
