FIU head basketball coach Isiah Thomas, a former Detroit Piston, is on that teams short-list, to become their new head coach, reports Chris Broussard, of ESPN The Magazine. The NBA Hall of Famer led to Pistons to back-to-back championships in 1989, and 1990.

Thomas didn't accomplish much with the Knicks, as their head coach, but he did lead the Indiana Pacers to three consecutive playoff appearances, from 2000-2003.

As Broussard points out, Thomas is good friends with Pistons president Joe Dumars, a former teammate.
