October.

The baseball playoffs, the World Series and the time conference play gets into full swing.

Ten teams are in action and six of them are playing conference games.  Texas State has the week off to prepare for Louisiana and try to figure out how to stop teams from scoring nearly 50 points per game.

WYOMING (0-4, 0-1 MWC) at APPALACHIAN STATE (2-1, 0-0)(-24.5)  2:30 ESPN3 --The Cowboys have been punchless this season with losses to North Dakota (not ND State) and New Mexico already this season.  This should be nothing more than a tuneup for the Mountaineers, who open league play in Atlanta next week.

IDAHO (1-3, 0-1) at ARKANSAS STATE (1-3, 0-0) (-20.5) 6pm, ESPN3 -- The Fredi Knighten-less Red Wolves went without an offensive touchdown last week at Toledo and it looks like AState may be without him this week as well.  Idaho QB Matt LInehan is banged up as well but is expected to play.  Idaho can move the football but you wonder if they can slow down the Wolves, even if Knighten is out.

LOUISIANA (1-2, 0-0) at Louisiana Tech (2-2, 1-0 CUSA) (-18) 6pm, KLWB-TV/American Sports Network -- Tech coach Skip Holtz called last week's ten point win over FIU in their league opener a "trap game."  It might be the first time I've heard that about a conference game sandwiched between two non-league games.  But at any rate, Tech's powerful offense will cause plenty of challenges for the Cajuns, who haven't announced who will start at quarterback.

SOUTH ALABAMA (2-2, 0-0) at TROY (1-2, 0-0) (-6)  6pm, ESPN3 -- The two teams both lost to NC State, but the Wolfpack hung 63 on the Jags in Mobile last week.  The Trojans have had an extra week to prepare for this one.  The two schools now have a trophy for the winner that looks like a WWE championship belt.  Hey...if you're gonna be the man, you gotta beat the man.  Everybody say it together.....WOOOOOOOO!!

GEORGIA SOUTHERN (-6) (3-1, 1-0) at UL MONROE (1-2, 0-0) --6pm, ESPN3 -- The Eagles survived the trip to Moscow for their first league win and now head to Monroe to face what is probably the league's best defense.  ULM didn't generate any offense last week and will have to try to do so at home without WR Rashon Caesar, one of their main playmakers.  This game was close in Statesboro last year.

LIBERTY (2-2, 0-0 Big South) at GEORGIA STATE (1-2, 1-0) 2:30, ESPN3 -- The Flames have a nice win against Montana this year, but then stumbled at Southern Illinois last week.  Georgia State has had an extra week to get ready.  Coming off their first FBS win, they probably needed it to get down to earth.  And, no, Liberty fans, if your team wins it does not lend credence to your wish to be in the Sun Belt.

NEW MEXICO STATE (0-3, 0-1) at NEW MEXICO (2-2, 1-0 MWC) (-13) 7pm Root Sports -- The Aggies threw one away in their last outing against rival UTEP and now face their other OOC Rival.  The Lobos have two wins, neither of them against good teams...but at home they're a big favorite.  We'll see if NMSU has recovered from the heartbreak.
