1971 — Ed Marinaro of Cornell University ran for 272 yards in a win over Columbia and broke the career rushing record of Steve Owens of Oklahoma. (More info.)

1974 — Muhammad Ali knocked out George Foreman in the eighth round of their fight in Zaire — called ‘The Rumble in the Jungle’ — and became the second fighter in history to regain the heavyweight title. (More info.)
