It was a marathon, not a sprint on Tuesday night and the Cajuns were given all they could handle against 11 seeded GA Southern in round one of the SBC Tournament.

It was a great effort from both squads in this game, Georgia Southern surprised the Cajuns in the first half the way they were shooting the three point shot (6-10). This is a team who UL wasn't thinking was going to shoot it as well as they did but they hung in there and continued to fight.

In the 3rd quarter the Cajuns used a solid defensive effort, holding the Eagles to only 9 points which allowed them to tie the ball game.

As the game wore on into the fourth quarter Louisiana found themselves down two with seven seconds remaining and sophomore guard Jasmine Thomas at the free-throw line. She calmly stepped up and knocked down both foul shots and we were headed to overtime tied at 58.

In the first overtime the Cajuns found themselves down two late in the game once again, this time it was Ty'Reonne Doucet to the rescue with a lay-up that tied the game at 64. However, UL wasn't out of the woods, there was still 30 seconds remaining and they needed a stop, they got it, and we were off to OT number 2.

This time it was Louisiana who was up late in the overtime period, they held a 75-72 lead with 25 seconds remaining, and a team who's not great at shooting three's needed three points. Fortunately for the Eagles there are other ways to score three points. Alexis Brown was fouled and went to the line for two, she made the first but missed the second, and the ball was tipped up and in by Hailey Dias-Allen. Overtime number two ended with the teams knotted at 75.

Finally, the Cajuns said, enough is enough. Halfway through overtime three, with the team up three, it was Troi Swain who nailed a three-pointer and just like that the lead was 83-77! A team who had been inconsistent shooting the basketball got a big shot when they needed it most from one of their senior leaders and they never looked back.

UL would go on to win the game 88-81.

The Ragin' Cajuns were lead by 28 points and nine rebounds by Skyler Goodwin, Ty'Reonne Doucet added a double-double off the bench (11 pts, 10 reb.), and Troi Swain poured in 17 points herself.

Louisiana will take on #3 seed UT-Arlington on Thursday at 7:30pm.
