Who is the best player the New Orleans Saints ever drafted from the BYU Cougars?

From May 1 until the start of the 2016 NFL season on September 11, we’re going to list the best players that the Saints ever drafted from all 128 FBS schools, as of 2015.

Of course, there are a number of schools, including Air Force, Appalachian St., Arizona, Army, Baylor, Bowling Green, Buffalo, and South Alabama, in which the Saints have never drafted a player.

Yesterday, we looked at the best player the Saints ever drafted from Auburn.

Today, we spotlight the best player the Saints ever drafted from BYU.

When it comes to selecting the best player the Saints ever drafted from BYU, the choice is between linebacker Colby Bockwoldt (2004), offensive lineman Dave Hubbard (1977), defensive lineman Shawn Knight (1987), running back Pete Van Valkenberg (1973), and linebacker Glen Redd (1981).

The pick: Glen Redd

The pick here is going to be Redd, a linebacker, who played 4-plus years for the Saints, from 1981-1985.

After concluding his college career at BYU, Redd was selected by the Saints in the 6th round of the 1981 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Redd was a starter at inside linebacker in his rookie season, before becoming a reserve, and key contributor on special teams in 1982 and 1983, after the arrival of Dennis Winston.

In 1984, Redd once again became a starter, as he was for the three of the first four games in 1985, before moving on to the Indianapolis Colts, where he played 8 games, prior to retiring.

A native of Ogden, Utah, Redd played 4-plus seasons with the Saints, appearing in 68 games, including 36 as a starter.

In 5 seasons in the NFL, Redd appeared in 76 career games, including 36 as a starter.

Sadly, Redd passed away in 2007, at the 49.
