The NFL’s Most Underwhelming Rookies

Some of the first-round draft choices from the 2011 NFL Draft have made immediate impacts in their rookie season.

Linebacker Von Miller of the Broncos, cornerback Patrick Peterson of the Cardinals, and quarterback Cam Newton of the Panthers are just a few of the rookies who were drafted in the first-round that have their current employers optimistic about the future.

There are others, who while it's still way too early to call them "flops", or even disappointments, that haven't played up to their team's expectation, either because of talent, experience, injuries, or unforeseen circumstances.

Fairley Declares For NFL Draft

Auburn defesnive tackle Nick Fairley, the 2010 Lombardi Trophy winner, has declared for the 2011 NFL draft. The Associated Press, courtesy of espn.com, has the story, below.

Newton’s Next Step Is The NFL

Cam Newton won the heisman trophy, never lost a game, and won a national championship as the quarterback of the Auburn Tigers. On the field, Newton rushed for 1,473 yards and 20 touchdowns while passing for 2,854 yards and 30 TDs. He set Auburn season records for both rushing and passing TDs and total offense and an SEC mark for yards on the ground by a quarterback. Auburn announced last night that Newton will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft.

Auburn Wins National Championship

The Auburn Tigers defeated the Oregon Ducks in the BCS National Championship 22-19. Wes Byrum's 19 yard field goal as time expired gave Auburn it's second national title, and first since 1957. The SEC has produced the last 5 national champions.

Peterson, along with 4 others is a finalist for the Bronco Nagurski award. The Nagurski trophy is presented to the best defensive player in college football.
