NBA Labor: First Two Weeks of Regular Season Cancelled

For only the second time in its history, labor strife is cutting into the NBA regular season.

Commissioner David Stern has announced that because the two sides are significantly apart on almost all issues, even after thirteen hours of negotiations, the first two weeks of the regular season have been cancelled.

NBA In Danger of Canceling First 100 Games of Season If Lockout Doesn’t End This Weekend

If NBA owners and players don’t come to an agreement by Monday to put an end to the current lockout, the first two weeks of the regular season will be canceled.

Complicating matters is the fact that talks won’t take place on Friday or Saturday in observance of the Jewish Holiday of Yom Kippur.

The NBA announced today that the entire 114-game preseason schedule has been canceled because a new collective bargaining agreement has not been reached with the National Basketball Players Association. If no deal is done by Monday, the first two weeks of the regular season will be canceled.

Kobe Bryant Likely to Play in Italy During NBA Lockout [VIDEO]

Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, 33, has reached a verbal deal to play in Italy during the NBA lockout, said Italian team Virtus Bologna.

“There’s still some things to arrange but at this point I’m very optimistic. I would say it’s 95 percent done,” Virtus president Claudio Sabatini told a local radio station, adding, “This is an important investment and a unique chance for the city of Bologna and all of Italian basketball.”

Jay-Z Reveals Brooklyn Nets Name, Concerts to Celebrate New Barclays Center

Rapper and businessman Jay-Z has announced that he’ll be doing a series of concerts next fall at the new arena where the NBA’s Nets will soon call home. Jay-Z, of course, is part owner of the team.

An all-access pass to events at The Barclays Center will go for up to $15,400 per season. It’s set to open on Sept. 28, 2012.

NBA Postpones Training Camp, Cancels 43 Preseason Games

Still in the midst of a lockout, the NBA canceled all preseason games from October 9th to the 15th. Originally scheduled to begin October 3rd, player training camps for the 2011-12 season have been postponed indefinitely. With a new CBA agreement nowhere in sight, this probably won't be the first NBA announcement of canceled games.
