Pirates Select Gerrit Cole With Top Pick, Mahtook Goes to Rays

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected UCLA right-handed pitcher Gerrit Cole, with the first selection of  Major League Baseball's First-Yeal player Draft, on Monday night.

Jenifer Langosch, of mlb.com, reports that LSU outfielder Mikie Mahtook was picked by the Tampa Bay Rays, with the 31st pick of the draft.

LSU To Battle Arkansas

No. 15 LSU (21-8, 3-6 SEC) travels to Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend for a three-game SEC series against Arkansas that begins at 6:30 p.m. CT Friday. Game 2 starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, and first pitch for Game 3 is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.

Sophomore right-hander Kevin Berry fired 2.2 scoreless relief innings Tuesday night and second baseman JaCoby Jones delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the eighth to lead No. 15 LSU to a 7-5 win over Tulane at Turchin Stadium.
