Since 2003, the baseball rivalry between Louisiana and South Alabama has diminished somewhat, mainly because, with exception of 2005, both teams haven't been fighting for a championship in the same season. The Cajuns have won the league title in 2005, 2007 and 2010. So...
Yesterday, we looked at how the intense baseball rivalry between South Alabama and Louisiana began. Over the next decade, the rivalry took on a slightly different tone, but remained just as intense.
The two teams met in a three game series in Mobile in 1993. On...
This season marks the 20th since Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns joined the Sun Belt Conference. It was actually a merger between the Sun Belt and the American South Conferences, plus one addition (Arkansas-Little Rock.) Of the eleven members who were in the league for that first season in 1991-92, six of them (Jacksonville, UCF, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, Texas-Pan American and New Orleans) are gone.

We're halfway through the Sun Belt schedule and the only thing we've learned is that no one is going to run away with this thing.
In fact, one should not assume that the top of the league will remain there, or that the bottom can't move up.
Here's where we stand at the halfway point.
I wrote a blog a couple of weeks ago and looked at a fourteen game stretch that the Cajuns would have to get through before the last five weeks of the season.
It started with a three game series against Florida Atlantic at home. Then the Cajuns would play ten of eleven on the road.

I've said it many times.
As a lover of the game of baseball, give me a 2-1 game over a 10-9 game anytime.
Well, almost anytime.
I'd rather have a 10-9 win than a 2-1 loss.
A beautiful day in Bowling Green and a beautiful pitching performance by Joe Zimmerman were ruined by the Cajuns' inability to score runs in a 2-1 loss to Western Kentucky at Nick Denes Field on Saturday afternoon...
I'll always remember a conversation I had with former Ragin' Cajuns baseball coach Mike Boulanger. We were talking after a tough loss on the road to Lamar in a Sun Belt game. If I remember right, the Cajuns lost 2-1.
"In this game," Boulanger said, "sometimes you lose, and sometimes you get beat. I hate to lo...
It was a beautiful day for a drive yesterday.
Normally I pick up a rental car when I'm doing a midweek game, but yesterday was so gorgeous I chose to take my car.
Mainly because it was a "top-down" day.
This just in from Indianapolis. There will be no more ringing of church bells in the city. From now on, churches will simply play an audio recording of Butler field goal attemps clanging off the rim.
Tonight Butler and Connecticut play for the National Championship in a matchup that seemed most unlikely when the NCAA Tournament began a little more than two weeks ago. Connecticut has won ten straight after finishing ninth in the Big East this year. Ma...
Last year during their amazing run to the Sun Belt title, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns swept five of their final six conference series, going 17-1 after a 4-8 start. And, because of that, one might think that getting a sweep over a conference foe is no big deal.

Last night's game between Louisiana and Florida Atlantic is one you would expect from two teams that tied for the Sun Belt Conference championship a year ago. If you remember, last year's games were low scoring, two of them decided by one run. FA...
OK, let me start by saying this:
I love my job.
I feel very fortunate to have an occupation where my work is my passion. As I enter my 40th year of broadcasting I have to say I'm blessed.
After a grueling stretch in December and early January where it seemed I was living in airports and hotels, the last few weeks have been more than welcome. With exception of a one night stay in Mobile, it's been home sweet home.
And, if you have to break that streak, South Florida ain't a bad place.
