Former UL quarterback great Jake Delhomme has agreed to a two-year contract with the Houston Texans.

The Texans were looking for help at the quarterback position after losing both starting quarterback Matt Schaub, and back-up Matt Leinart, to injuries.

The 36-year-old Delhomme, who is a native of Breaux Bridge, and a graduate of Teurlings Catholic, has played for the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, and Cleveland Browns during his 12-year career.

Delhomme has thrown for 20,764 career yards, and 125 touchdowns.

Up to that point, the 2nd year pro had never played more than bunch formation and special team packages. Brown was impressive in his first extended playing time. Despite giving up 40 points, 454 yards, and 3 straight touchdown scoring drives in the 4th quarter, the Houston Texans defense refused to acknowledge the dominant nature of the New Orleans Saints offense. Texans safety Glover Quin quipped, "We just didn't make plays that we needed to make. It wasn't like they're something special." Other members of the Texans secondary agreed. If the Saints offense is "nothing special," wouldn't that make the performance of Houston's secondary even more dire than what they showed on Sunday?

Quarterback Drew Brees led the way for the Saints. Brees completed 22 of 39 passes, for 370 yards, and three touchdowns.

With the win, the Saints improve to 2-1, while the Texans drop to 2-1.

Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano spoke glowingly about his new RB Reggie Bush throughout training camp. Sparano said Bush would get his chance to be an every-down back and would get 20 or more touches a game. Maybe he was lying to Bush or just himself. Bush touched the ball 6 times for 21 yards on Sunday in a loss to the Houston Texans. Rookie RB Daniel Thomas carried the rock 18 times for 107 yards.
