While the New Orleans Saints' slim playoff chances were erased today, they did give the Dallas Cowboys a little coal for their Christmas stockings. Powered by their high-powered offense, Drew Brees and the Saints defeated the Cowboys in overtime by the score of 34-31.

NFL Inserts New Overtime Rule Into Regular Season

NFL owners agreed today to insert a new overtime rule to the regular season. The new overtime rule is the same rule applied to the NFL's last two postseasons. Each team must possess or have the opportunity to possess the ball unless the team that has the ball first scores a touchdown on its initial possession. Saints Place Garrett Hartley On Injured Reserve

New Orleans Saints kicker Garrett Hartley was put on injured reserve yesterday. Hartley suffered an unspecified hip injury while kicking an extra point during the preseason. Hartley's agent claims that Hartley recently suffered a set back while rehabbing the injury, leading the Saints place him on IR. New Orleans also released defensive tackle Mitch King and signed linebacker Ramon Humber and offensive tackle Pat McQuinston.
