Ingram Has Injured Toe, Misses Practice
Sean Payton Unsure How He Will Deal With Saints’ Crowded Backfield
For the first time all season, all four of the New Orleans Saints' top four tailbacks are healthy, and that gives head coach Sean Payton a little bit of a problem.
Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas, Darren Sproles, and Chris Ivory are all healthy and ready to go, but the four backs are one more than Payton would typically like to have.
Having four backs that you have confidence in can be a good problem, but remember, if all of them are active, then you'd be taking away a roster spot from a player at another position.
Payton hasn't said how the Saints will deal with the situation when they take on the New York Giants on Monday night.
Grading The Saints-Week 9
The New Orleans Saints got back on the win track on Sunday, defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 27-16, in an NFC South contest, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, in New Orleans.
The Saints obviously fared much better than the week prior, when the fell to the previously unbeaten St. Louis Rams, 31-21.
Against the Bucs, the Saints' offense rolled, for 458 total yards, including 195 rushing yards, while the defense held Tampa Bay to only 84 rushing yards.
Special teams was fine, as John Kasay hit two field goals, and punter Thomas Morestead was great, as he usually is.
You have to give the Saints passing grades all-around this week.
Ivory Can Now Practice With Saints
Ivory Not Activated By Saints … Yet
New Orleans Saints running back Chris Ivory is healthy and eligible to return from the physically unable to perform list. However, he was not activated today, and until he is removed from the PUP list, he cannot practice with the team. The Saints have a 3 week window to decide whether or not to activate him, release him, or place him on injured reserve.
Beyond The Mic: Ivory’s Return Begs Questions
New Orleans Saints RB Chris Ivory led the team in rushing a year ago as a rookie. His bruising style as a runner took its toll however, and he had two offseason surgeries. As a result, he's spent the beginning of the season on the PUP list. That will change next week, as he should be activated to the 53 man roster. How will coach Sean Payton deal with an already crowded backfield?
Saints Injury Report For Raiders Game
The New Orleans Saints will take on the Oakland Raiders in week 3 of the preseason this Sunday. Typically starters play into the second half of the third preseason game, and Sunday's game should be no exception. However, several starters will miss the game with injuries, as well as a handful of backups.
