Valentine Named Red Sox Manager

Bobby Valentine is going to be the new manager of the Boston Red Sox.

Valentine, who has been in Japan on business, was scheduled to fly back to Boston late tonight and will be introduced as the Sox manager on Thursday, according to reports.

Former Red Sox Manager Terry Francona Takes Blame for Team’s Late Season Collapse

Former Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona spoke with Boston sports radio station WEEI on Wednesday, his first public comments since he parted ways with the team last week.

Terry Francona Out In Boston?

Terry Francona, who led the Boston Red Sox to two World Series titles, and five playoff appearances, likely won't be back as the team's manager in 2012.

The Red Sox failed to make the playoffs, after  blowing a nine-game game lead in the American League wild-card race, the biggest ever held by a team in September that failed to make the playoffs.

Francona will meet with Red Sox management this morning, and the expected outcome is that the team simply won't pick up an option year on his contract for next year.
