The SEC has been considered the top football conference in the country for a long time now.

But has the Big XII closed the gap this year?

The SEC has what many consider the top two teams in the country, in Alabama and LSU, but the Big XII has two top-five teams themselves, in Oklahoma and Oklahoma St., plus another unbeaten, in Kansas St.

In a ten team league, the Big XII has only one team with a non-winning record, and another two at .500, while the SEC has three teams with non-winning records, and another two at .500.

My vote for the toughest conference in the nation still goes to the SEC, but I do think it's closer than it has been in recent years.

Now, let's see what some of the experts think.

Recently, Texas A&M announced they will leave the Big XII, and are expected to join the SEC, and recent reports say that Missouri may be headed from the Big XII to the SEC as well.

We're still not done.

Pittsburgh and Syracuse are leaving the Big East, and going to the ACC.

Meanwhile, the remaining teams in the Big East and the Big XII are trying to salvage something their respective leagues.

All of this movement...is it a smart thing for all these conference, and schools, to do?
