Brett Baer had a record setting Saturday.

And that has turned into a reward on Monday.

Baer, who kicked a 50-yard field goal as time expired to win the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, has been named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

Baer, a senior from Brandon, Mississippi, had a perfect Saturday in the Cajuns 40-0 win over Lamar.  He kicked four field goals in four attempts, did the same with extra points and averaged 41.7 yards on three punts, including two punts inside the 20 yard line.

Baer's first field goal, a 52 yarder, was the longest of his career.  He added kicks of 40, 39 and 32 yards.  The four field goals gave him a school-record fifteen consecutive field goal tries, breaking the old record of 14 held by Mike Shafer.  His sixteen points scored tied a school record for points in a game by a kicker, held by Rafael Septien and Mike Lemoine.

Troy senior running back Shawn Southward and senior linebacker De'Von Terry were named offensive and defensive players of the week in Troy's 39-29 win over UAB.

Troy and Louisiana play this Saturday night in the Trojans' home opener.
