Four big softball series’ highlight the third full weekend of league play in Sun Belt Conference softball action this weekend.

Currently, 11th-ranked South Alabama is 7-0, while 21st-ranked Louisiana and WKU are both 6-0, with Texas St. and Georgia St. coming in at 2-1 in the conference standings. Following those teams are ULM at 1-5,  Troy at 1-6, and UT-Arlington at 0-6.

Let’s take a look at the respective conference series’ schedule for this  weekend:

 

#21 LOUISIANA (25-6-1, 6-0) at WKU (23-10-1, 6-0) 

This is, without a doubt, the premier match-up in the league this weekend, with two unbeaten teams in conference play facing each other.

Louisiana ranks first in the league in hitting (.305), as well as first in runs scored (200), and home runs (50), and third in pitching (2.23).

UL, who has won ten-straight, and 17 of their last 18, is led by freshman outfielder Hayley Hayden, who currently leads the conference in home runs, with 11, and runs batted in, with 36, along with senior second baseman Natalie Fernandez, who leads the conference in hitting (.510), on-base percentage (.602), and runs scored (40)

WKU currently ranks tied for fourth in the conference in hitting (.274), and features Olivia Watkins, who is currently hitting a .471, while leading the league in hits (57).

The Lady Toppers rank second in pitching (2.34), and are also the top fielding team in the conference.

The series will feature tow of the top four pitchers, ERA-wish in the league, in Louisiana's Christina Hamilton, who is 12-1 with a 1.30 ERA., and WKU's Emily Rousseau, who is currently 13-7 with a 2.17 ERA.

Louisiana and WKU will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at  1 o’clock (cdt), and a single game on Sunday at noon.

 

#11 SOUTH ALABAMA (29-4, 7-0) at TEXAS ST. (19-19, 2-4)   

South Alabama, who currently ranks sixth in the league in hitting (.263) and first in pitching (0.82), travels to take on Texas St. this weekend.

The Jaguars feature the individual league leaders in ERA., with junior right-hander Farish Beard (0.40) and senior left-hander Hannah Campbell (0.61).

The Bobcats currently rank tied for fourth in the conference in hitting (.274), while ranking fifth in pitching (3.38).

The series is scheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 pm, followed by a single game on Sunday at noon.

 

UT-ARLINGTON (14-21, 0-6) at GEORGIA ST. (16-18, 2-4)  

Georgia St. ranks third in the conference in hitting (.290) and seventh in ERA. (4.70).

The Mavericks are currently seventh in the league in hitting  (.237), while ranking sixth in pitching (3.66).

The two teams will play a noon doubleheader on Saturday, followed by an 11 am single game on Sunday.

 

TROY (15-21-2, 1-6) at ULM (15-13, 1-5)

ULM currently ranks second in the league in hitting (.291), and eighth in pitching (4.96 ERA.), while Troy is eighth in hitting (.223) and fourth in  pitching (3.26).

A doubleheader between the two squads is scheduled for Saturday at 1 o’clock, with a single game scheduled for Sunday at noon.
