Streaking Cajuns Win Tenth Straight, Beat Alabama 6-0

Make that ten in a row for Louisiana.

Carson Baranik allowed just three hits through 7.1 innings and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns shut out Alabama for the second straight game, 6-0 before 4,004 at M. L. “Tigue” Moore Field.

The Cajuns (10-1), who were held to just two hits in a 2-0 win on Friday night, had ten hits off four Alabama pitchers in the Saturday contest.

Baranik (2-0) gave up hits in each of the first two innings, then retired eleven straight hitters before yielding his third hit of the game.  Baranik was lifted in the eighth after a one out walk.  He threw 101 pitches.  Matt Plitt allowed a walk, then retired five in a row to finish the game.

The Cajuns got on the board in the first inning when Caleb Adams led off with a walk off losing pitcher Justin Kamplain (1-1). Seth Harrison sacrificed Adams to second and Blake Trahan drove in the run with a single to give the Cajuns a 1-0 lead.  Louisiana made it 3-0 in the second when Jace Conrad was hit by a pitch with one out.  Greg Davis then doubled down the left field line to put runners at second and third.  Adams then hit a ground ball and reached when the throw came to the plate, with Conrad sliding under the tag.  Harrison’s sacrifice fly made it 3-0.

The score remained 3-0 until the sixth inning when the Cajuns got a run on another Harrison sacrifice fly and Louisiana added two more in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Leonards and a solo homer run by Jace Conrad.

For the second straight game Alabama (4-5) failed to get an extra base hit.  They only got the leadoff man on base one time when Baranik issued a leadoff walk to Ben Moore.  But Wade Wass fouled out to third and, in a hit and run, Moore was doubled off first when Kyle Overstreet flied to right.

The Cajuns played errorless ball for the second time in the series.  The Cajuns have made only two errors in the winning streak.

Trahan and Davis each had three hits to lead the Cajuns’ 10 hit attack.

Louisiana goes for the three game sweep tomorrow and will send Greg Milhorn to the mound in a 1pm contest.  Right hander Ray Castillo will pitch for Alabama.
